The Iris's are blooming a little late this year, they usually bloom right around the anniversary of my Moms death which is February, so now I have to share the Iris story with one and all, sorry if you have already heard it and for those of you have not, here it is in print!
Sometime in the 1980's my Mom and Dad made a visit home to England when they returned Dad had a small clipping of an Iris root with them which he planted in the front yard on Jeanne street and over the years the Iris's blossomed and multiplied in other words they thrived in Virginia and took over the front flower bed, dad dug some up, splitting them is whats its called and passed some on to me which I dutifully bought home to our house in Woodard's Mill and planted them in a flower bed by the pool, well they multiplied all right but they never bloomed until the February my Mother passed away and then one day soon after the funeral I was washing dishes and color caught my eye I had to take a closer look and sure enough the Iris's were blooming, early for Iris's but I was not complaining for some reason the Iris's bought great comfort and I could see them from the kitchen window. Every year after they would start to bloom around the end of February and continue through early April.
When we moved some came along with us and are blooming here on Benefit Road. A wonderful reminder of times gone by.
