Blast with the Past

This past weekend was Youth Conference, the theme was Family History (I think that is why they put Charlie and I incharge of the program!) It was a great weekend, Friday we had civil war re-enactors, games and classes and of course the usuall Friday night dance, during the dance time we had vintage clothing for the kids to wear and have their photos taken, a friend of Charlie's has a fully equiped WWII jeep which he bought up to the church, and Charlie had picked up some WWII uniforms from the Army/Navy Surplus store, we thought that would be fun for the boys but it was amazing how many girls got into the whole army thing. And of course we had the traditinal pioneer type clothing. The kids also did a cemetery service project, we had a gentics class and we did some name indexing, all in all it was a great weekend. Busy but fun.

K-9 & Kids Camp

This time last week we were at K-9 Camp, this was Jordan, Fitch & my 3rd year of camp, for those of you who dont know what K-9 camp is let me explain; its one week of you and your dog having total fun with about 50-90 other kids and their dogs; sounds like total mayhem, but it really always goes off very well all things considered, this was my first year teaching the kids and their dogs a class I taught the photography class, in the past I have always worked in the "Dog House" (a consession stand) I have to say I really enjoyed it; the kids were wonderful and very creatieave in dressing up their pouchs and taking pictures. It is always a great oppotunity to make new friends, for you and your puppy.

Some of the classes offered beside the photography class are obediance, agility, grooming, vet care, greyhound rescue, CPR for your dog, arts and crafts to name just a few, to put it simply the whole week is a blast! But the most favourite and anticipated class is the last class on friday, and that is the lure coursing class, dont let anyone tell you that your dog does not have a good memory all week the dogs and their owners look with longing at the field were the lure coursing is held...this of course was Jordan and Fitchs 3rd year running the course and if you dont know what lure coursing is, well you can always look it up on the web, or see the picture below, and read my brief description here, in short a course is set up in a field using a cable attached to the cable is a couple of plastic trash bags when the cable is activated the dogs take off chasing the trash bags, some dogs take right to it and others well just are not interested, but for the ones that are its, "Grrrrrrrrr let me at that bag" Its really fun to watch especially the smaller dogs their little paws barely touch the ground usually they go around the course once, twice is the max as it is hot and tiring. But the dogs love it and cheer each other on as they run the course. If you look real close in the photo you can just see the cable to the right of Fitch and to the left of Jordan.
The camp is ended with a picnic on Saturday and a demo of the weeks classes for the pround parents and grandparents and that is concluded by an agilty relay which consists of three jumps a tunnel and two jumps they have to run it twice and tag the next in line, I have to brag that Jordan and Fitchs team have always aced that demo!

Our Baby is 19!

Yesterday was Leah's 19th Birthday, can you believe that?! We celebrated with dinner at Applebee's and then came home for cake, ice cream and presents.
Kandice volunteered to make the cake, she is so creative.
The photos on the top were made from Edible icing the cake was absolutely heavenly, yum!
Today is Jenny's birthday and so last night we had a double celebration, Jenny's cake was cheesecake courtsy of Harris Teetor. It was a good evening but I still cannot believe that Leah is 19! How did that happen?

4th July Fire

Just thought I would update everyone on our recent fire on Ballyhack Road, it turned out to be 500 acres of soybean's which of course all went up in flames..an 18 year old was responsible for the fire he thought it would be safe to set off fireworks in a field!
Anyway its out now and we have clear skies again thank goodness and I might add we also had rain!!! So everything is green again

4th July

Hot and Smokey that was our July 4th! We had family and friends over for a cookout and of course we swam in the pool, great way to keep cool.

Sydney was dressed for the occasion so we just had to snap a picture or two.
The smokey part of the 4th has been going on for a while it started with a forest fire in North Carolina, (we are 10 mins from the state line) then a fire broke out in the dismal swamp and has been smoldering for ever...I feel like we are on a permanent camping trip every morning we are greeted by the smell of campfires except its the cypress stumps smoldering in the swamp, and last night a new one broke out a little too close to home over on Ballahack Road, that's way too close, Chris and Kandice when they left here last night went out to check it out and so did Charlie. We need a really good downpour as much as I hate to say it, one that lasts for a few days, this is out 2nd year of drought.

New Program

I have a new piece of photo editing software for my computer and wow is it great! It's Nik Color Efex Pro, a little on the costly side but worth every penny plus I had accumulated some rebates on other camera stuff I had purchased so I decided why not I can really put it to use and I have, it takes two seconds to accomplish some of the things that would have taken 5 or 10 minutes in Photoshop and it actually runs with Photoshop as a plug in. Its great just wish I had more time to play around with it. You can order it directly from Nikon or B&H carries it too.
